Thank You...You Made Magic Happen!
As 2020 winds down, we still have fond memories of the annual Children’s Christmas Celebration. Yes, it looked very different this year. No large gathering of 700 children and 100 volunteers, entertainers, dancers and the turkey lunch buffet. We couldn’t cancel Christmas, especially this year. The children have missed so many events and happenings. Thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, Rotary pivoted and made the Children’s Christmas Celebration happen!
Gift wrapping the books and classroom gifts took place out side and in the garage at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home allowing social distancing and fresh air the night before. Volunteers all screened, hands sanitized and masks…we didn’t even recognize some of the volunteers!
The big day was limited to a few volunteers who braved the cold! Gifts delivered and then the food all individually packaged in takeout containers placed on carts by classroom. Add chocolate milk to the cart and then delivered to the classroom door. Yes, we delivered over 550 turkey dinner with all the fixings and we even had Halal turkey! We even had a special message and greetings from our Honourary Rotarian Santa Claus.
We made Christmas happen for these children and staff at Cathy Wever School. It was a challenge to make this happen, costs are higher and thanks to each of you who helped make this possible! So many volunteers, Rotarians and Friends of Rotary stepped up to help and reached into their pockets to support this annual event. Thank you to each and every one of our partners, sponsors and Virtual Stockings donors! You helped make magic happen in 2020!
