Rotary Summer Literacy 2020

Rotary Summer Literacy Update to Club members

As the last day of school was Friday and thoughts turn to Summer, there are a number of questions about operating our annual Rotary Summer Literacy Program. This would have been our 20th year of offering FREE camp style programming in the summer. The Rotary Summer Literacy Program reaches over 1000 children each year.

The Rotary Club of Hamilton has been looking at all the options and have been is discussions with many people and organizations. We understand the importance of the program and are concerned for the safety of children, families and the RSL staff. We are waiting to confirm funding, and clarity of Provincial Regulations but we do have a plan.

The Rotary Summer Literacy in the Park! The program will take place in mid to late August and will focus on getting students ready for back to school. It will look different, be in a different place but we know that the literacy skills and preparation for school will be we received. We hope to be ready to launch registration on July 15th and operate for 2 weeks in mid August.

There are many details still to firm up, and yes we will be needing Rotary volunteers – Rotarians of the Day will be different but essential to the program. There will be more details and information forthcoming, but we wanted our Members to know that we will be trying to offer one of our signature programs this summer.

In the mean time, continue to support our Lunch for A Cause as we will be using some of the donations to make this program possible for local children, youth and their families this summer!
